We should take advantage of The new Opaque API coming in the new protobuf 2024 edition (should be released early 2025.)

Note: It should be possible to automate some or all of this using the open2opaque tool.

We need to upgrade protoc-gen-gorums to support edition = 2023 to use the open2opaque tool.

We should stick with the hybrid version for now so that we don't block users from using editions and start their own migration.
