The current markdown is very barebones. Unfortunately, there does not exist a library that easily solves these issues. A good editor should be able to do the following:
Numbered lists should be indented
Should be able to dynamically change the heading level of a markdown by deleting or adding a hash. Right now, you cannot remove hashes.
Drag-and-drop to upload images and gifs. Should given option for resizing and alignment
Support for collapsible sections on headers
Version control

I use MarkText, superb MarkDown editor. It ticks all checkboxes and more.
For the time being I think it would be nice to point to MarkText or your editor of choice in reor. No need to reinvent the wheel.
