Dyn Managed DNS Support #205
Comments
Hi @BitBuilder27. Sure! I won't necessarily be able to get to it immediately. But it definitely looks possible. |
Looking forward to it! Thanks for the consideration! |
Just to clarify, which of these Dyn services are you hoping to use? https://help.dyn.com/dyn-dns-products-compared/ I ask because some of the other Dyn plugins I'm seeing specifically work with their "Managed DNS" service rather than their legacy "Standard DNS" service that may also be going away next year. |
Wow, I did not know that. We are using "Dyn Standard DNS Service" currently via a DynDNS Pro subscription. I did go back and noticed I did get an email from them that essentially stated nothing is changing for me.... very confusing. Dear bmcginnis, Since Oracle acquired Dyn in 2016 and subsequently acquired Zenedge. The engineering teams have been working diligently to integrate Dyn’s products and network into the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure platform. A majority of Dyn products have now been integrated and upgraded on the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Accordingly, DynDNS Pro/Remote Access is decoupling from the Dyn brand and business unit this summer, and will remain a business unit within Oracle. Your organization has the right to access and use DynDNS Pro/Remote Access. This product will continue to be available from Oracle without any disruption of service and no action is required on your part at this time. |
Yeah, that is super confusing. The problem may end up being that you're on a legacy plan that I can't even attempt to sign up for anymore and thus can't test against. I'm also having trouble finding API documentation for anything but their Managed DNS service. Is the domain you're planning on using one that you own or one that is provided by Dyn? Historically, getting Let's Encrypt certs from shared domains offered by places like Dyn can be hard due to the 50 certs per domain per week rate limit. Have you tried to get a cert using the Manual plugin already? |
We really don't use Dyn for Dynamic DNS; mostly it is our DNS provider and we have a couple of domains registered with them. We are emailing to let you know that your Oracle/Dyn domain name services are migrating to Name.com. Your domains will be transferred to your new account at Name.com upon approval by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). We are working with Name.com to make this transition as seamless as possible, specifically: This migration will occur at no additional cost. So, in short, I don't think there is much point in putting any work into it and I'm sorry to have bothered you! (Plus, it looks like you already have support for name.com) |
LOL. No problem at all. And yeah, the Name.com plugin should just work whenever you get moved over. I'll probably still keep this issue open as a reminder to implement a plugin for the Managed DNS service which appears to be sticking around for now. |
It looks like PR #271 may be an attempt to add Dyn Managed DNS support. |
Mental note that the new EOL date for this service is May 2022. https://www.oracle.com/corporate/acquisitions/dyn/technologies/enterprise-customer-faq.html |
Looks like they extended the retirement again until May 2023, but still aren't allowing new customers or trials. |
Any chance of getting support for Dyn.com DNS?
