Afaik, the ATMEGA32u4 is the only chip supported by keyboard firmware like QMK or TMK. I think QMK has some support for ARM chips now, but really the easiest chip to use is the atmega.

I would like to know if changing the microcontroller (NXP LPC11U14F or LCP11U24F) makes much difference.
