Can operational_status tag values be utilized to reflect the current status of street lights in the map?

  1. Working lamps - operational_status = operational
  2. working but needs maintenance - operational_status = needs_maintenance
  3. not working - operational_status = broken

Suggestion.

  1. for operational lights - pick color from light:colour attribute as it is today.
  2. For broken - use grey or red to denote its broken.
  3. For lights that needs maintenance - pick colour from attribute value and may be animate to flicker it.

Thanks for your suggestions. I don't think it makes sense adding this tag, because it has some issues:

  • It has only limited usage, mainly in Haiti, Kenya and India
  • It has a lot of issues (see the wiki page) and there are better alternatives, e.g. lifecycle prefixes (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Lifecycle_prefix)
  • The operational status can change quickly, but a lot of the tags in the database are very old, e.g. the ones in Haiti are about 10 years old.
