Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Matlab license unavailable.

Describe the solution you'd like
A compiled version of osprey that runs with the matlab runtime environment and does not require a Matlab license

Describe alternatives you've considered
running in Octave?

Additional context
In our open-source project http://neurodesk.github.io/ we provide reproducible access to neuroimaging tools, but we do not have a Matlab license. We provide access to tools like SPM via the matlab runtime environment and it would be wonderful to provide open access to Osprey as well.

Hi Steffen, nice to hear from you, and thanks for this excellent suggestion. We are in the early stages of making compiled Osprey versions happen (to a large part because we will need to for a big project we're participating in!), so I would expect that you will see this eventually - hopefully within a year or so. What's a good place to start learning about NeuroDesk - I assume the documentation?

Thanks again,
Georg

Dear Georg,

Fantastic to hear that you are planning a compiled version of Osprey! If you are running into any issues compiling it, we would be keen to help as we have already a few Matlab toolboxes on our platform and we may have seen one or the other problem :)

A quick way to get started with Neurodesk is to have a look at the 2-minute video I prepared for OHBM this year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLv_5fycugw

I will also present Neurodesk at the MRItogether workshop in https://mritogether.github.io/timetable#parallel-sessions-d-postprocessing on Wednesday 7pm Baltimore time.

And another great way to get started is by just playing with it: https://neurodesk.github.io/docs/neurodesktop/getting-started/ and see what works already and send us feedback about the things that don't work yet :p

Thank you and all the best
Steffen

Hi Steffen,
it took some time but we have finally implemented a compilation script for Osprey. This allows us to create two different versions of Osprey:

  • a command line version better suited for non desktop integration. This version is also used in a singularity container in the project that Georg is referencing above.
  • a GUI version that is more interactive and user-friendly

I'll open a new issue on the NeuroDesk GitHub for Osprey integration into NeuroDesk.

Best,
Helge

Dear @HJZollner,

Just wondering when you are opening the Issue to integrate Ospey in Neurodesk? Can you provide me with a download link to the compiled version and a requirement on the matlab runtime environment version?

Thank you
Steffen

Hi @HJZollner ,
Could you help me find the Docker container please? Or Singularity? Is it on Dockerhub?
Thanks!

Dear @HJZollner - great to hear this is completed. Where can we access the containers?

Are there any updates on this? Should we compile it ourselves?
