Issue Summary

This is a placeholder issue to start gaining some feedback on how important this issue is and determine what must be done.

Lots of clients I am sure on a recurring open JDK upgrade path that aligns with Oracle's JDK releases timelines.. if this doesn't have a roadmap that supports open JDK11 now and 12 when it's out, we really can't use this.

#440 Is something that will be required as a prerequisite for this most likely.

Has this really not moved in almost a year? Does this mean the majority of your clients who use Java are still on Java 8? Or are they simply working around this by calling the REST API through their preferred HTTP client?

FWIW, we use the HTTP API and it works fine for our simple use.
