Feature Request: Show more than just recent N media in "View All Media"

Bug description

For one particularly image-heavy chat, View All Media only loads a few photos and I'm unable to scroll further back than one week.

Steps to reproduce

1. Open Signal Desktop > Go to a chat > select View All Media
2. Scroll down as far as possible
3. Exit Signal Desktop & re-open, issue persists

Actual result:
Seems like the results are limited to the last couple of days. Instead of being able to scroll down to load received media from the last couple of weeks/months, it's not allowing me to see anything prior to this week. Not sure exactly when this started happening on Desktop client, but it's been this way for a couple weeks at least. Seems to be an issue with this particular chat, because I'm unable to reproduce the issue in other chats with older media. On iOS everything loads normally.

Expected result:
"View All Media" should load previously received media, not just the last few days. It should match what I see on iOS.

The menu entry says "View all media" and there is no indication that the list is truncated whatsoever so this is a bug really.

Possible solutions:

• add some lazy loading and a "..." indicator or something to the media list
• change menu entry to "View most recent 50 media" (duh)

This is really big issue, not feature request. I can only view all media on android phone (didn't try on iOS tho) but on desktop, i can view only recent. Interesting fact is that the media has beed downloaded to device but not shown in that view recent media section.

Although the desktop app says "Show recent media", it would be really helpful if it would be "Show all media" and actually show them like on phone app.

@EvanHahn-Signal @scottnonnenberg-signal What is the limiting factor here? Presumably the images are actually accessible (and you can just scroll back through your messages to find them), so why is only 'recent' media shown?

There's no limiting factor I could think of. The issue is on our radar, but I can't provide you any estimates yet.

I used to be able to scroll back to all media on my phone (Android) and I no longer can. It seems to only keep the last 3 months. I know the media is there because my signal backup is like 6Gb now. So why can't we see it?
