Don't know whether this would be to the same tune of specific implementation you were thinking of, but I've been having a play around with this in our fork over here: https://github.com/gosquared/hubot-slack/blob/master/src/slack.coffee#L22-L47

Actually there is a way to do this - using custom events emitted by scripts and handled by adapter. Working on that right now, will make a PR soon.
