Currently the header buttons are not well-labeled and have unclear functions.

Proposed changes:

  • Add help button to explain functionalities of the website and other header buttons
  • Change icons of "tracking callouts" and "places near me" buttons to better reflect their purposes
  • Make it more clear that the tracking callouts feature is a toggle
  • Improve the speaking rate input (maybe a slow/normal/fast option instead of number input?)

Thanks for the feedback. I agree the buttons could use some improvement, and am open to the changes you propose.

The main special requirements here are that the controls should be large and high-contrast enough to be usable on a phone-sized screen with low vision, and are well-annotated enough to be understandable and interactive when using a screen reader.

One alternative idea for the speed controls is a tortoise/hare rocker switch like the macOS speech controller.
