This issue is meant to collect feedback on the revamped grading table. Please let us know what worked and what doesn't and make suggestions how to improve it.

What worked for me:

  • The UI looks much nicer than the previous table. The statuses are more visible.
  • The clickable filters are nice, makes it easier to filter missions without typing.

  • Dropdown button to filter by "my groups". Its nice to see only my students' assignments.

What didnt work for me:

  • The grading count is weird. I'm not sure what the number is supposed to mean.
    image

  • The grading summary is not giving an accurate summary. It's including assignments that have not been submitted. Ideally, avengers only want to know the number of assessments that have been submitted and not graded.
    image

  • Unsubmitting missions/quests now requires many more clicks.
The new grading table has 2 views, ungraded and all, For a avenger to unsubmit a misison, the avenger need to click once on the ungraded dropdown and click one more time to select all.

Previously, the grading table only had one view. The mission was immediately visible when I clicked on the grading tab and I could unsubmit with less friction.

  • Grading list is not updated after I finish grading an assignment. The grading status of the assignment remains as None even after grading. We need to refresh the page to update the statuses.

  • Grading table does not fit fully in a 14inch laptop screen. The grading summary takes up a considerable amount of screen space, blocking the "grade assignment" button. If I scroll to the right to click on the grading buttons, then the assignment names are blocked.

Suggestions:

DISCLAIMER: I am not familiar with UI/UX design, so these are just my thoughts on how I would make my own life easier.

It would be nice if the 2 common use cases, grading and unsubmitting assignments, are more streamlined.

  • One view which shows everything (both graded and ungraded). Put all the assignments with Grading == "None" at the top of the list and the remaining assignments can remain in the original order. I believe Grading == "None" is sufficient to filter all the work that avengers need to grade (missions/quests/studio performance).
  • Update the grading notification count at the top with the number of assignments with status Grading == "None"

Its easier to unsubmit missions/quests if there's only one view. Also, when all the unmarked are placed right on top, then we dont really need the grading summary.

Nice to have (but not super important for me):

  • Ability to hide columns in the grading table.
I understand that the username column was added to differentiate users with the same name. But, its a super rare case, so most avengers do not need the username column. Also when when the grading table is showing assignments from my own group, the group column is unnecessary... It would be nice if we can hide columns to save some screen space on small laptop screens.

Will mention #2662 as well to add to this thread, as this was suggested by an Avenger.

Reflection tutor here, so my experience will be different since I don't have a studio group and will just see all entries.

What doesn't work for me as well as the previous version is the lack of a filter for each category. If I want to find Game of Tones contest submissions, I would use the search box and type "Game of Tones", but I will only see the "Game of Tones Contest Voting". Unlike the previous version, I can no longer click on the column header to sort. Thus, I have no choice but to click through the pages until I reach the actual contest submissions.

In fact, if I'm clever and just click on a student's name so that I can see that student's contest submission, I can then click on the name "Game Of Tones":

But notice that I have selected the filter "Game Of Tones" but the contest voting is still included within the selection. So when I remove the student name filter, I will still only see the voting submissions.

I think the current version is better for avengers to see what they need to grade, but as an archive of all submissions, it is not as good as the previous version due to the dropping of column search and sort. Another feedback is to allow manual entry of the page number, instead of having to click the arrow multiple times.
