How to use own scriptlet on SpiReport?

Hello,

Is there a way to use my own scriptlet to do data validations?

I am creating some labels and reports at work, and I want to create some java code for data validations (null, string format, date, etc.). I have tried the use scriptlet to do it, but it's not working for me. The specify do not have a good explanation on ireport documentation.

Steps:
Trying to use the scripleteditor

Select the option for use scriptlet internally

The place where I am writing my java code.

But nothing changes on expression editor. I can not use my scriptlet here.

Sorry to ask about this things, but I really tried to do it by myself, but I could not.
