SCT has been mainly designed with Linux/macOS in mind, with our Windows support being a little bit of an afterthought. We do provide advice for using WSL or Docker to emulate a Linux-like experience, and we do have WSL in our test suite, but we don't necessarily test the user experience (i.e. downloading + installing SCT, running commands, viewing results).

During the SCT course, many of the participants were using a Windows machine, and issues with the user experience became immediately apparent. So, we should try to hammer out some of these details and make the process more seamless/foolproof.

Here are some points raised during the SCT Course (will be edited):

  • xdg-open doesn't work as expected -- detected as ubuntu machine but needs WSL-specific steps
  • Non-wsl files are difficult to find ("Where is mount point? etc.)
  • Mount point shows a very long path that uses a lot of horizontal terminal space

As discussed in the previous SCT meeting, this issue may not need to be addressed anymore, as a native Windows installation for SCT has taken priority (which is not subject to these same issues).
