We formed our Nevada Nonprofit Corporation on 16 June 2022, and filed our 1023-EZ for 501(c)(3) public charity determination with the IRS on 12 September 2022. We have retained the GitHub Organization name from the initial founding of Code for Vegas in 2014 for the sake of continuity, but our reboot as an independent organization, and eventually as a public charity, affords us an opportunity to reach for more interesting projects, but without the backing of a larger national organization.

We are renaming to Innovate for Vegas Foundation to be more inclusive of all volunteers.

Our expenses thus far are fairly minimal, with the usual cloud expenses (and free tiers!) making up the bulk of our outflows, though as we grow our organization and number of projects, and as we expand into more diverse and inclusive areas (not everything is code) of participation, we anticipate a small increase in our budget need.

• Our 3-word ethos: Inclusivity, Diversity, Accessibility, which applies to anything from our meetups to our projects
• We prefer to operate independently or with municipal partners and support from community near and far rather than depending too much on corporate sponsorship.

All of our participants, including officers and directors, contribute their time on a volunteer basis.

We have access to a co-work space for our Hackathon Meetups each month, and we are presently exploring some hardware hackathon possibilities and an upcoming space in a sponsored booth at CES 2023.
