I've received several recommendations to use Javers instead of java-diff-utils for producing differences between Java objects. This should be considered for M2.

I just stumbled over this issue and just wanted to throw java-object-diff into the mix, in case you haven't seen it yet. It's very lightweight, actively maintained and may be a good fit. Feel free to contact me, if you have any questions about it.
Since Javers doesn't provide the required reverse operation (Patch/Merge), the java-object-diff library from SQiShER seems to be a better candidate to replace java-diff-utils.
@SQiShER: wouldn't be better if you open a separate issue proposing your java-object-diff library including an executive summary showing the main advantages against the (now abandoned) java-diff-utils?
