Juergen Hoeller opened SPR-12675 and commented

JMS 2.1 is likely to define an alternative to EJB Message-Driven Beans, in the form of annotated listener methods - very similar to Spring 4.1's @JmsListener. Let's track that spec revision and support any standard variant of this next to Spring's own mechanism, as far as feasible.

According to this week's JavaOne announcements about Java EE 8, there won't be a JMS 2.1.
