Inspired by Kai's prototypes here, https://holos.berkeley.edu/resources/code-examples/

Possibilities:

Animating frames between stacked raster layers
Small multiples - showing linked raster views
Dropping pin to show temporal change at a given location (using methods from CalAdapt to query for numeric data from raster data)
Binning raster data in bins (such as hexbins) to do calculations on a per-bin level

these would remain as standalone tools and not be added to Explore or Compare
