I am suffering increasingly from the choice being made by a growing number of web frameworks, using the geolocation instead of the user language preferences in the browser to decide on the right language.
As a German who has studied at MIT before i18n, I am using all my devices still in English!
I am impressed, for example, that the French managed something great like Python, because I understand how wrong the french keyboard is for programming efficiency!
Having said that, there is a growing number of expats worldwide living in countries with languages they do not speak or barely.
But when it comes to business (e-commerce) and a website is ignoring my language preferences and talks to me in WHATEV because my IP happens to be in that area, I am getting seriously annoyed!
So I am trying to make the young generation of web developers aware of the world out there, where people are moving around in places with foreign languages. Obviously an issue harder to communicate to our english speaking friends, but hey, this is my point exactly: I only want to use English where ever I go to conclude my business! Why is it so hard?
This started a few years ago and its getting worse because this mistake is based in the frameworks being used by people not thinking about it anymore.
So I start here and are happy to hear about any other places/frameworks I could place this reminder.
Thank you for your attention, it has been on my mind for a few years already.
I am merely stating simple facts.
WHY IS MY BROWSER SHOWING ME THE PAGE IN A LANGUAGE I DONT UNDERSTAND
the website owner does not care about losses in business due to language problems
