SPC j j is not adapted for the avy-char command because:

  • you have to go slowly on the j j part. If you are too fast, instead of M-m-j-j emacs will see
M-m-jj, which is not the same binding. It is also very irritating as it breaks your flow and you have to do it over again.
  • having a three-steps binding is too long. avy-char should be accessible in one or maximum two steps.

The purpose of avy-char is to move around your code fast with the keyboard. I find that these points defeat this purpose.

I propose SPC . because M-. is bound to jump-tags, so . is already linked to the notion of jumping arround.

Whatever the shortcut that is to be chosen it has to be as short as possible and enable fast access.

Indeed it happens. I wonder why.
