Hey @Devinmarra, I used this plugin many years ago and was looking to re-use it yesterday, I discovered it was outdated and the reason why. I'm willing to update it to work on 2021.2.X versions, already updated the Gradle and I will be looking to fix deprecated stuff. What's the best way to maintain this plugin from now on? Is there anyone having rights on this repository and on the plugin upload on the marketplace? Or is it best to go on from a fresh fork and updating it as a new resource on the Jetbrains marketplace (Sylvanaar would be still mentionned anyway, in accordance with this project Licence) Also, as I'm not really good with all the plugin features and also new to jetbrains sdk, some things may be broken or unoptimized and will need some updates but hopefully we could have something stable with some work. Sorry for your loss, my respects to Sylvanaar. |
Hi @Yukeien , thanks a lot for reaching out. There's 2 good options I can think of for maintaining this going forward If you'd like to outright take over ownership, maintenance, etc, you're welcome to fork it and start a new resource on Jetbrains. As an alternative, I do have an organization called Legacy of Sylvanaar which I set up for all of his WoW stuff. I could fork it there and add you to that organization. This gives you the option to co-own it or pass responsibilities on to someone else without having to make more forks. If you'd like to move it to the organization and be added, just let me know. I can make that happen today. As for the resource in Jetbrains, I wonder if I can ask them to transfer ownership to me (or you) so that a new resource doesn't need to be created. They did that for me in curseforge and wowinterface....it's worth asking Jetbrains. I'll see what I can turn up in the next day or so. |
Thanks for your answer @Devinmarra I think the better option is for you to keep the ownership of resources, even if you can't maintain it it's for the best, co-own is really sufficient for me as long as I'm able to work on the project and deploy updates. As you already took over his resources, it's for the better that you keep doing so. Adding me to the organization to work on this fork would be awesome, I'm would be glad contributing. As for Jetbrains keeping the already existing plugin would be better, since when we'll release the update it will be available to update for every person that already downloaded it, and it's at 900k downloads, I would love seeing it get past 1 million (and more!). They probably have some workflow for that, keep me updated. |
I like it. I've forked the repo and sent you an invite to the organization https://github.com/Legacy-of-Sylvanaar I'll start turning stones at Jetbrains right now |
Thanks for the invitation, also I was wondering, is there any alternative chat we could use to facilitate communication? I was thinking probably like a Discord, Slack or anything like that. I have to admit asynchronous conversations aren't too much my cup of tea |
I totally agree. You can find me on Discord, my name is Hugh Jayness#8279 |
Thanks for picking up the torch @Devinmarra and @Yukeien. Were you able to get things worked out? |
Actually yes we got the ball rolling. Unfortunately at JetBrains they wanted us to create a new addon, but they said they'd link to it from Jon's addon. I think we have what we need to keep going. We may need people to help with maintenance though. @Yukeien let me know if I can help with anything |
Those are great news! I wish you all the best with it already! I would love to help, but sadly my time is stretched very thinly currently and I am not sure if my Java knowledge is at the level needed. It more or less ends with some basic knowledge about generics. |
I'm in the same boat. Programming was 100% Jon's jam...he did this in his free time for fun and he was brilliant at it. I'm far from brilliant, but I also have AFK things I both need and want to do. Only thing I know I can contribute is to help get through red tape and enable other people to take this up. |
You have now become the dreaded "project manager" I guess. 😉 |
Hey @JanB1 thanks for the interest! I didn't had a lot of time to contribute these past months so the project is currently on hold, I managed to fix all build errors but now it's crashing time and debugging once at a time. We've forked the project, I'll go and check that everything is push on remote so you can take a look Any help is appreciated |
@Yukeien @Devinmarra @JanB1 I'm looking to contribute to FOSS and this seems like a match for me. Although I'm very new to the scene, I'm a hard worker and would love to contribute to bug fixes and tests. I'm okay with Java and pretty new to Lua, let me know if there is anything a noob like me can assist with. |
Hi! It's been a while and I don't remember where we left off on this project, but I'm really happy you're interested in helping out. Find me on discord and I'll invite you to our group and we can start collaborating. My discord is Hugh Jayness#8279 and I'll get you an invite to the channel. |
Sent the request from SteelANDGusto |
This is difficult to post, but Sylvanaar contributed so much to the community, I feel like this needs to be known.
Sylvanaar passed away about 2 months ago, suddenly, tragically. I worked with him for about 4-5 years, he was my mentor, my friend, and we always had each others 6 in Call of Duty.
Please don't let this repo go unmaintained.
