Tapping the Open Folder button no longer works since updating to v.1.19.0 a couple weeks ago. Instead I'm shown this:

Looks like it considers this to be some kind of text file or something.

I'm using Material Files as my file manager, and for years it's been working flawlessly.

Version Information

App Version: 1.19.0.3
Syncthing Version: v1.19.0
Android Version: LineageOS 18.1 for microG

What happens if you try to open that file manager? In my case, it doesn't work although the correct (and previously working) app is selected. See also https://forum.syncthing.net/t/opening-a-folder-from-within-syncthing-does-not-work-anymore/18146

I have a similar problem, I can't choose any file manager I have installed.
There are 2 installed, Files from Google and My files from Samsung.
Both are not displayed as an option to open a folder...

@Kahz3l I think that is an unrelated problem. Not every file manager supports the required intent to open a directory. This might be the case with your Google and Samsung apps. Google doesn't show up for me either. I guess you'll need to install another file manager app and then wait for this issue to be fixed so it actually works again.

When selecting the Material Files text editor I get:

Same goes for the rest, it's variations of "that's not what I expected this file to be".

I can confirm that Material Files doesn't work with me either, it recognized it as a text editor.

I can also confirm that cx file explorer also doesn't work as it is recognized as archive video...

I have met the same issue. It seems like the app is trying to open a folder as a file, which confused the file manager.

I'm not seeing this on my android anymore with:

  • syncthing 1.23.1
  • cx file explorer 1.9.8

for me, it looks like the option to open a folder from within syncthing has been gone completely.
now it does not even try to open anything when tapping on the folder icon on the right side of the display.

FWIW, I still get the identical behaviour, even with a different phone (OnePlus 5T instead of 3) and (upgraded) OS and app.

App Version: 1.23.1
Syncthing Version: v1.23.1
Android Version: LineageOS 19.1 for microG

The Amaze File Manager is available on both Google Play and F-Droid and seems to support the correct intent for opening a folder.

I tried different file managers and only Amaze File Manager worked for me. (I got it from f-droid). (Thank you @doug1)

Total commander presented an error "is folder" or such.
Simple file manager tried to open the folder only as pdf or compressed file.
Samsung's own file manager didn't show up at all (the same with 2 more random file managers that I found on f-droid).
So I can confirm that the folder shortcut is being treated as a file by any file manager that I tried except Amaze File Manager which worked fine.

What is interesting is that Simple File Manager which didn't do the trick on my android 9 and 11 phones with Syncthing on v1.23.4 works on Android 5.0 normally (with the latest Simple File manager to support lollipop and Syncthing 1.23.1) So my guess is that this has nothing to do with Syncthing at all and it is related to either newer versions of android (and permission issues) or the individual file managers themselves not been able to handle the folder shortcut.

Seeing this again now on:

  • Cx file viewer 2.0.3
  • syncthing 1.26.1
  • android 14

Seems to be a duplicate of #838.
