Thelio intake fan produces annoying sound on spin-down #55
Comments
I ended up replacing the fan with a Noctua NF-A14. This fan moves more air but is also, on paper, louder. However, it's still very quiet to my ear, even with the case panel off and in a quiet house with a low noise floor. In addition, it does not produce the "rattling" noise that the be quiet! fan does. The cable is also an appropriate length for connecting to Thelio IO. |
I've been having the same problem with my fans |

The be be quiet! 14025-hf-pwm fan that Thelio uses for its intake is quite noisy, particularly when spinning down. It produces an audible "rattly" noise. I uploaded a video below. Not all speakers seem to reproduce the noise well, so.. headphones recommended I guess? I promise it's much more audible in real life! Some times are louder than others. I'm probably going to end up replacing the fan on my Thelio. I experienced the issue on another Thelio so I know it's not just a one-off defect.
