I understand the basic concepts but have not yet read @erights thesis. Can somebody please flesh out the section on Promise Pipelining?

Two resources that might be helpful:

  1. The online book Programming Models for Distributed Computing has a section on promise pipelining.
  1. I tried to explain promise pipelining briefly in this medium post (someone else can probably do better) but it did generate this graphic which might be helpful:
