Some of the GSRI helmets are showing noise cancellation devices, mounted on modular rails on sides. There should be an ACE-compatible noise reduction property for such helmets.

@PhileasLX can you check which new helmets have hear protection ?

@ArwynFr Our "GSRI_helmet_spec", "GSRI_helmet_light" and "GSRI_helmet_modular_advanced" have peltor on the model.
However, only the first two already have an hearing protection value set by ACE (we need to check the config of the third one), but there is no noise reduction (the sound volume could be reduced like with earplugs).
I would like to know if we want to also apply a noise reduction or not?

What I had in mind is to simulate Active Noise Cancellation on helmets visually showing a peltor. This is modern tech available on a lot of military headsets. The idea is to have a self-interaction with "ANC on/off", that will silently switch the headgear type to the silenced version and back. So, basically, 6 helmet classes, but only 3 visibles in arsenal.

As there are 2 stats "ace_hearing_protection" and "ace_hearing_lowerVolume", what do you call a silenced version? Will we just adjust the lower volume part to act as we put earplugs when activating ANC?
Could a peltor with no ANC activated, offer a protection from firing weapon and explosion sounds?

This should be tested and confirmed, but my understanding is this:

  • hearing_protection is what prevents loud noise from causing loss of hearing and tinnitus => should be the same value whether ANC is on or off, and should not be zero as long as the model has Peltor (versus zero = your ears are unprotected);
  • hearing_lowerVolume is what has an affect on how loud you hear sound around you => should be a different value with ANC on or off, but both models should have non-zero values since Peltor, even without ANC has an effect of how good you can hear around.
