With the attached one-page TUGboat item, nidanfloat provokes the warning from TeX:

tb139reviews-wichary.ltx:90: Infinite glue shrinkage found in box being split

which causes TeX to exit with bad status, even though it's not an error.
I worked around it with \let\vss\relax before the \end{document}. Not sure if it's anything fixable, but clearly something is going awry here.

I hope it will reproduce simply with "pdflatex tb139reviews-wichary.ltx" with the currently released ltugboat class.

I'll also attach the two images that are included. It's a complicated page :).
Thanks for creating nidanfloat. We use it quite frequently in TUGboat.

darn it, I forgot to comment out the \let\vss\relax. there will be no warning with that line still active.

Thank you for your report.

This problem is related to the "new mark mechanism" introduced in LaTeX2e 2022-06-01. (cf. #5)

A temporary workaround is to use \RequirePackage[2022/05/31]{latexrelease} to rewind the LaTeX2e kernel to before 2022/06/01.
