Possible to add a !sell command to sell prior to 4 hours? #184
Comments
@KerishLotan Thanks for the suggestion! Can you explain why this feature would be useful to you? Memes almost never lose upvotes after you invest in them, so selling early (and evaluating your investment early) can only cause you to lose more money than if you didn't The only benefit of I rather like the idea that making an investment is committing your money for a significant length of time. So I'm leaning against the idea of making it easy for investors to jump from investment to investment. |
I would also like to see this. The whole thing is a great bit of fun but when you go all in and the meme hits its upvote ceiling early on then you're locked out until the 4-hour limit is up, which takes the fun out of it a little. Maybe a arbitrary fee (i.e. 20%) could be applied for cashing out before maturity to deincentivise repeated use. |
The way your formula works after a certain point there is no more returns on more upvotes. |
An advantage of !sell would be the ability to divert coins to a different investment. Say you go all in on something and it has partially matured with a 30% gain. You don’t think it will go much higher. You can use !sell to pull out of that investment (maybe with a slight fee) to invest in something else. |
We implemented this in /r/BancaDelMeme (an italian version of MemeEconomy). We also introduced a little fee while selling: the original invested mem€coin is reduced by 1%-25% depending proportionally on how much time is eroded. Keep in mind that we have a longer investment period (24 hours) so this is used to re-gain your money sooner, so you can invest in another meme. |
The stocks and shares update will pretty much invalidate this and have some sort of selling/buying system. |
@Keanu73 it will be closed when stocks are merged |
