Data ingestion for flat line sensors

We ingest several GBs of sensor data readings that do not change over extended periods of time (i.e. flat line sensors). Thus, we have situations in which the same value is stored with consecutive timestamps over extended periods of time.
It would be great to have a function/feature built into TimescaleDB that would allow same values repeated over specified consecutive periods of time to be ignored, and only record/store readings when there is a change in the value.
