Hi,

As suggested in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1035415#15

Can you rename the package tldr package to the client name tldr-hs as soon as possible (Since backporting isn't an option)?

We have been receiving a lot of reports from Ubuntu LTS users regarding the broken client, despite us having an official snap package most users especially beginners to Linux or WSL are installing the tldr package using APT (following old guides and tutorials), I am planning to update the tldr package to our Python client as we package the same in other Distribution repositories. I am not well versed with Debian packaging, I would appreciate any assistance in setting up a repo for tldr at https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/packages and contacting the maintainers from the Python team

I have already renamed the tldr binary package to tldr-hs, see here
[1][2]. tldr still exists as a transitional package [3], i.e., people
that had already installed tldr will be migrated to tldr-hs (see [4] for
more information on transitional packages).

Ideally, tldr should continue be a transitional package until the next
stable version of Debian, at which point it can be removed/replaced
(once every user has migrated to tldr-hs). This is done in order to
have a smooth transition for users between stable releases.

Not sure if we can expedite things here and release the tldr package
sooner for the official Python client. Have you found anyone from the
Python team that could help here?

Great, thanks for the help and fast reply.

Noted, if there are questions related to this from users, I will let them know about the transition.

Unfortunately, I don't know anyone from the Python team. I will try contacting the maintainers of tldr-py package, and ask if they are willing to help out with tldr.
