I'm on gnome-shell, and the systray icon looks pretty bad to be honest. It's larger than its space, and it's not intuitive for me tbh. In the few other systray icons i have, i could intuitively open their respective menus, whereas here each time i tried to use it, it did the exact opposite compared to the other icons (i.e. hiding the window when i expect a menu to appear, and vice versa)
Also, systray icons are a giant hack on linux. They are basically tiny windows that get embedded in another window by the window manager. They don't and can't fit well with the surrounding system. If the media keys start working correctly (I'll make another issue for this), I'll have no reason to use it. And if I need a systray-esque gui, I suppose https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/55/media-player-indicator/ would work for me if I am able to install the mpris service, since it's much better integrated than any systray would ever be
The current tray click interaction is based on Amarok's tray interaction (e.g. hide/show window). There was some discussion in #18 about changing this interaction but we never reached a conclusion (e.g. try to use focus detection -- although it seems to be buggy on occasion).
Hi,
Would it be possible to add an option that removes the systray icon altogether?
