WPCP annoyance on over 70000 websites #7468
Comments
LOL checking random domains: no problem here for example: |
I've checked 100 random domains and 14 have no problems, while 86 still being affected, what gives still an estimation that about 86% (over 60000) websites maybe still affected, I haven't investigated further as for now, perhaps someone (or me later) will check more websites to get some more stable statistics / numbers. Guys (SimpleGear, llacb47) , your stupid LOLs and emojis...github isn't youtube or facebook comments, as you both were 9 yo pokemons and came here to troll and make fun of someone..show some more respect or GTFO. Edited: also it seems everyone got upvoted except me, by another pokemons (Marek33, JobcenterTycoon) despite that fact that without me the thread wouldn't even exist. It seem that since github introduced god damn emojis, github became a youtube/facebook-like 9 yo trolls/pokemons friendly festival place, such trolls hijack many threads and attach their stupid emojis to many comments, without making any meritorical comments / contribution to the issue. At the same time, the opposite of such ulgy behaviour are contributors like mapx-, jspenguin2017 and Crystal-RainSlide which didn't spam the issue with stupid emojis, and contributed with meritorical technical comments instead, that's the difference between ugly trolls and normal people. |
Unfortunately there is a huge number of sites, we cannot check / add such giant number of sites to annoyances list. We'd need some bot to do all this job without a real benefit. We could eventually select (if doable) only the well known sites (in the first 1000-2000 on alexa ranks for example), test them & add the right filters . |
If there are really that many domains using it, we should make the solution generic. It is possible to abort script execution by ID with Nano Defender, so a generic solution should be rather safe. But since this is annoyance, I cannot just add the rule for all users. I need to think about what is the best way to fix this. I have opened an issue in my issue tracker, but as you would probably expect, this is going to be low priority. |
Maybe a dedicated list can be created? I also meet something like this, but in CSS:
And there are lots of anti-copy script without a signature like So, I think anti-copy, or copywall, are type-rich enough, to have their own list. And this will also provide choice to the users. The coverage of the list will be the only problem left. |
@Crystal-RainSlide Currently there is no such thing as a "list" in ND. But I totally forgot that scriptlet and procedural cosmetic rules can now be generic, so we likely won't need to fix in ND. @mapx- Any thoughts about adding a generic rule to the annoyance filter? |
As I know @gorhill is against injecting generic rules .. so we should know his opinion |
Only 381 domains in Alexa top 1 million sites (801906 actually). Details:
Only 82 on Cisco list which should be more recent. Does this mean publicwww is outdated? They collect them in different way, thats probably all. Details:
|
I am still against generic procedural cosmetic filters, scriptlets, or HTML filters, we can't predict the effects these will have on all the sites they where they are pointless. Those filters should be added because someone, an actual visitor, reported an issue on a specific site, not because a crawler suggests we do so. |
anti right-click, anti drag, anti ctrl+u on |
WPCP annoyance on about 70000 websites : anti-context-menu + anti-drag + anti-text-selection
I don't think you're gonna to fix all the websites one by one because there is too many of them... They use almost identical / similiar code, so maybe possible to create one solution with all the god damn domains appended to it (just like BIG BABY
##+js(nobab)
) - yes - this gonna be a very very long filter, maybe the longest ever created, does anybody imagine a filter with over 70000 domains appended (or even maybe there will be 3 filters needed so 3 x 70000) , but hey - in practice free publicwww account reveals only about 2127 of them unless someone has a paid premium account or penguin will run his net-scan crawler bot again to get all WPCP domains, so as for start, here you go:2127 WPCP domains
Or perhaps uBO Annoyances (and AdGuard annoyances as well) list should stop fixing such annoyances and leave it for Nano or userscript generic solution, unless you're gonna to find the 70000 websites.
