Discussion on entity identifiers

the readme says

Entity Identifiers. In order to successfully join the dots in a given supply chain, all entity identifiers must be resolvable to one or more verifiable public identities expressed as URIs. Suitable identifier schemes are

• DNS domain names - verified using did:dns (for verifiable credentials) or DKIM (for email verification)
• National business register entries (eg https://www.abr.business.gov.au/ABN/View?abn=41161080146) verified via a register issued digital credential (automated) or via paper registration certificate inspection (manual).

Schemes like GS1 GLNs and DUNS numbers exist but, of themselves, they have little identity integrity and tend not to be verifiable or resolvable. Therefore we propose not to use them.

This thread aims to provoke discussion about entity identifiers

• are DNS and national business registers the right two options?
• How do W3C DIDs fit in?
• Do we need to support implementers with tooling such as did:dns issuing?
