I have created https://github.com/cristan/improved-un-locodes and have found many, many issues with the original data set. I'd be happy to report them all, but I don't think thousands of DMR's will be something that will be appreciated.

Therefore: what would you like to receive?

  • I have about 500 coordinates which are off by more than 1000km (for example: USTYC, where the coordinates 4040N 01157W should be changed to 4040N 11157W). It would be really nice if you could trust the coordinates of the dataset to not be at the other side of the earth. I could limit myself to obvious typos: these should be really quick to go through.
  • 79 which should be deleted. A first random example is AOVPE (Ongiva) vs AONGV (Ondjiva). Especially Spain is doing really bad here. See this comment for my list.
  • 29 entries without a status (e.g. BTCCS)
  • 26 entries without a date (e.g. ETADD)
  • Non-valid region codes used (e.g. ESAYE which has 13 as subdivision code, which isn't even in the regions. It should have AR as its code instead.
  • Focus on the ~3000 un/locodes which we actually use at my company (of which 1484 don't have a location). I could even manually pick the most major ones. For example, London, Madrid, Luxembourg and Milano all don't have coordinates. That's pretty bad IMO. The full list can be found as this ticket.
