Description

Due to several issues with GADM, including data inaccuracies, unclear grouping of regions, overly formal data, and outdated information, we need to find a reliable and up-to-date alternative for administrative division data. This meta issue will track the progress of exploring and evaluating various alternative data sources to replace or supplement GADM.

Requirements

List the specific, verifiable requirements for this task. Each requirement should be clear and concise, allowing for straightforward verification from a Pull Request.

  • Identify and list potential alternative data sources.
  • Evaluate the coverage, accuracy, and update frequency of each data source.
  • Check the licenses.
  • Assess the ease of integration with our current data model.
  • Document findings and provide a recommendation report for each source.
  • Make a final recommendation for the best alternative to GADM.

Subtasks

Note: This meta issue will be updated with links to individual issues as they are created.
