Given this .env file:

DB_PASS=DgaH\$a43

The values in PHP should unescape the \$.

If you quote the value, it will be unescaped.

DB_PASS="DgaH\$a43"

I'm guessing you're pointing out that unescaping should, for compatibility with other languages and bash, also happen with unquoted values?
