Do it myself, investigating this option, to determine what is currently available including appstream.

fyi you could start tinkering with the following flatpak install proof-of-concept recipe.

Note that the directories

'/var/local/lib/flatpak/exports/share'
'/root/.local/share/flatpak/exports/share'

are not in the search path set by the XDG_DATA_DIRS environment variable, so
applications installed by Flatpak may not appear on your desktop until the
session is restarted.
