Visualising SMILES with RDKIT and NGL problems?

I am following the T009 part of the tutorials and I am having a difficulty using this function.

    view = nv.NGLWidget()

        time.sleep(0.1)

        component.add_ball_and_stick(multipleBond=True)
    return view

For me, the canvas is returned as empty. Granted I am pre-aligning structures from T008 which I don't get how it would be relevant, but just generated rdkit classes from SMILES and then cleaned them. I initially tried the whole of my 700 ligands but then tried it with 5 as well. The same thing happens.
