To not reveal sensitive Data like Passwords,

  • either wrap the rendered Template in manifests/service.pp, like 
      file { '/etc/logstash/startup.options':
    content => Sensitive(template('logstash/startup.options.erb')),
  }
  • or use EPP instead of ERB, as EPP does handle sensitive Data natively
