Allow extensions to register full-fleged programatic protocol handlers #451
Comments
Safari is opposed to this, since we think protocol handlers should work from all apps on the system, and not only in the browser context. |
@xeenon Can you clarify what you mean? This in no way prevents apps from handling protocols. |
A protocol registered in an extension would not be visible to apps, it would only be visible in the browser. |
The browser can register its handling of the scheme with the OS. |
Thank you for discussing the issue in the last meeting. Quite unfortunate that I couldn't attend, although the feedback provided in the minutes is very useful. I'll take some time to digest it and, if possible, would like to revisit the issue in a future meeting. |
I'd like to drop here some draft document of the idea that I introduced during one of the group meetings in the TPAC 2023.
I hope it could help to continue the discussion, if you find it interesting.
