Issues

I have tried in vain for several months to try to get the "Allow system sleep when display is closed" to work, but I keep getting the same error message (multiple times, every several seconds).

In addition to that feature not working, the error messages appear very frequently and prevents me from re-checking the setting easily. This is because the error messages block interaction with the app menu or just makes the app ignore the setting change (see screen recording). Also immediately after I re-check that feature the macbook goes to sleep.

Request

As well as getting the "Allow system sleep when display is closed" feature work, please fix the error message UX.

Fixes I've tried

I installed the Amphetamine Power Protect script dmg. I have confirmed that the files are where they should be as noted in the readme. Amphetamine Enhancer is installed. I did my best to follow this out-of-date guide

Expectations

The error message should not appear multiple times at once, multiple times in a row, and should not block the ability to turn back on the setting that cause the error in the first place. Also re-checking the option should not put the device to sleep.

Extra Info

I'm using Version 5.3.2 (9416)

Regarding the feature not working

Something broke several months ago. Some kind of macOS update & Amphetamine's attempt to counteract the update, both of which are beyond me. And the fix does not work on my machine, unfortunately. I have not been able to get it to work since it broke.

My Setup

I am using an Apple Silicon macbook (16-inch 2021 M1 Pro) in clamshell mode. It is connected to an external monitor through a Thunderbolt/USB-C dock via DisplayPort. Occasionally I need to switch to my other computer via a KVM switch (between the monitor and the dock). This makes the MacBook think there's no monitor attached, putting it to sleep because the Amphetamine feature is not working. By default when I switch back, the macbook does not wake and I have to log in again. With Amphetamine, I use to be able to just keep the macbook awake and it would simply switch to the built-in display and back to the monitor as needed.

Solved-ish... I had this same issue, for me the root cause was that the user profile did not have administrator privileges. Once I added those privileges to the user profile, the script began to work normally. I do think it's an issue still as the error message spam was acting as denial of service preventing me turning off Amphetamine. Worth noting many programs that once worked now require admin privileges to work properly because Apple has changed the OS so much. I hope this helps anyone facing the issue. If you're reading this William, thank you for all your hard work in making Amphetamine!

Hi @ryhaph my user profile does have admin priviledge but this issue persists for me 😢
