Recently there has been some ongoing discussion on Discord about a ZMK icon and logo. This was originally discussed in #195 and #225, and is now being brought up again. The previous issues spoke about a logo and a mascot - more recent discussion has brought up the need for both an icon (small symbol suitable for toolbars and app icons) and a logo (which may contain the icon).

A number of sketches and ideas have been tossed around, this issue is to collect the requirements and themes discovered by the exploration.

Color

The color palette of the icon and logo should be the same as the current, i.e. mixes of purple and blue.

Themes

Core themes:

  • Keys (Keycaps)
  • Wireless

Secondary themes:

  • Wired connectivity
  • Zephyr

Related tertiary themes:

  • Bluetooth
  • USB

Icon Requirements

  • Must be legible at a size of 24x24dp
  • Must be easily recognizable
  • Must be distinct from other icons
  • Must look good regardless of display size

Logo Requirements

  • Must be unique and easily recognizable
  • Must be distinct from other logos and icons
  • Should have a suitable monocolor version in addition to any color, for pcb printing
  • Should look good at various sizes, though not necessarily to the extent of the icon
  • Ideally makes use of the letters "Z, M, K"
  • Ideally makes use of the icon in the logo
