Micro not reading config files

I have tried adding a new keybind in bindings.json along with setting tabstospaces to true in settings.json, but it seems no matter what I try, I cannot get the config files to update the editor. Any ideas?

Where did you put the files? What is in them? Do you get any error message when you start micro? Do you get any error message when you start micro if you put something obviously wrong in them? Do they work if you run micro with micro -config-dir /PATH/TO/YOUR/CONFIG/DIRECTORY/?
