autohost_tld: fritz.box - not starting up #2961
Comments
Hi, and thank you for the report. Currently, the autohost TLD is expected to be a top-level domain, so second-level domains aren't supported. @ameshkov, should we allow any level in that setting? Should we also rename it into something like |
Would be nice. I thought I could replace these dns settings with it. resolve local[/168.192.in-addr.arpa/]192.168.178.1 |
These aren't needed anymore anyway since PTR resolution is done with the local resolver anyway.
I am not entirely sure about it. |
But without this line [/fritz.box/]192.168.178.1 |
We'll see if we can do this during the current development cycle. I will write if we have any updates. |
@kultfigur, it turned out that this feature was easier to implement than we initially thought. It should be available as of snapshot Can you please check if the new feature works for you? |
Ok, here my results. I have set everything accordingly, uncommented my old dns settings, cleared my wlan leases, cleared the browser cache, but still Safari and Chrome on W10 won't open http://fritz.box |
I think there is a misunderstanding here. https://github.com/AdguardTeam/AdGuardHome/wiki/DHCP#autohosts |

After considering the issues and the system more thoroughly, I think there was a bit of confusion here:
The two enhancements we can make in a future version are:
We'll look into these enhancements further. In the meantime, does keeping the custom upstream rule and changing the |
Hi, thank you very much, I appreciate your efforts. Yes, maybe there are different ideas in our heads what the autohost_tld parameter is all about. What I simply want, after installing AGH, is reaching my local devices via their IP and their names. Including my router on http://fritz.box. Like before I installed AGH. Currently it's only possible when I add these two rules to AGH dns settings: |
@kultfigur, are you absolutely sure that the first rule is still required? The second rule will have to stay for a while. |
For me PTR resolution works fine without extra rules (IPv4 and 6). But I also ran into the same problem, i.e. I also tried replacing [//] by setting local_domain_name. Maybe the documentation should be made clearer here. |
Thank you all for the input! The documentation definitely needs improvement. I filed #3003 as an issue for these improvements. We'll continue keeping possible changes in mind. I'll close this issue for now. |
