AdGuard causes a BSOD related to the Microsoft driver netio.sys
#5169
Comments
7.18 Encountered the same problem |
I have the same problem. |
I'm experiencing the same issue. I've had two crashes so far, both with the DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error. In my latest crash dump, I noticed the driver adgnetworkwfpdrv and found this GitHub page. |
I'm experiencing the same issue 2024.07.25 Update: now I have 7 crashes so far, one happened just now |
I'm having same issue I also got netio.sys bsod after installed the AdGuard , although my minidump says it's NLSvc.exe ( NetLimiter ) and another one is AVGSvc.exe ( I have AVG installed ) but my pc is completely stable before installed adguard . AdGuard Version : 7.18.1 (4778) Dump files |
I experienced this netio.sys BSOD once about a week ago (which is the first BSOD I've had in literally years) while watching a YouTube livestream in Chrome. I didn't see this topic until now, so me too. It only happened once though and haven't been able to cause it again. Using Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Defender. |
I have expericenced similar problems, netio.sys BSOD about two times and adgnetworkwfpdrv.sys BSOD one time so far. AdGuard Version : 7.18.1 I decided to uninstall the Adguard now to see if the BSOD occur again or not. |
After I disabled the WFA driver, everything returned to normal and there was no BSOD. |
Dear Sirs, |
@AyratSaubanov , as a temporarily solution you can enable TDI driver. As for solution time's estimate - we'll try to do our best and fix it asap, I guess with a couple of weeks |
Just wanted to hop in and say that this issue is present for me as well on 7.18.1 I've only started hitting this over the last week or so but I might have been lucky prior. Here are some minidumps for reference. |
Starting to see it happen a little more too now (twice within a few days), also on 7.18.1. When a fix lands in nightly, hopefully it also quickly lands in beta too, but it really needs it. |
Can confirm it is an issue caused by the WFP driver. |
We've published a new Nightly, so could you check it please. |
It looks fine now on a new nightly version - Adguard was used for a whole day without any crash. |
Here's another improvement, could you install this version please or just update through the app. |
Version "7.19.0 nightly 4" is working fine for a couple days now. No crash occured. |
I am experiencing the same BSOD problem(version 7.18.1). I first noticed it on my stationary PC and thought it was an issue with the PC itself. However, when I started working on my laptop, I observed the same crashes occurring while browsing the internet using Firefox. The only thing in common they have is the AdGuard. Pretty sure 7.17.* had no issue as I started to get the BSODs recently. |
@ScarletKuro , please update to the latest nightly or the beta version |
Nope, I just got a BSOD with references to netio.sys. |
I am on 7.19.0 nightly 5 and still getting BSOD with NETIO.sys. |
@trparky, @zengshengliu, please grab and send the logs (instruction here) to the devteam@adguard.com with the issue number in the letter's label |
Happened to me too when I was listening to music. |
BSOD happened to me today! This BSOD happens for me around once a month. Adguard for Windows V 7.19.0 (4853), Windows 11 23H2 BUILD 22631.4460 IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD with NetIO.sys listed as issue. Further WinDBG showed:
Mini Dump: Adguard Settings: |
@markdude701 |
Given the crash occurred in AdgNetworkWfpDrv.sys, it's extremely likely it's the WFP driver. |
netio.sys causes blue screen |
Just got this BSOD again after updating to 7.20 Beta 1, it didn't occur to me during the last weeks on 7.19. It happened while watching a YouTube video in Edge Chromium. Or to be more precisely: it did not happen while linearly watching videos (did that for an hour or so before), but just when I started jumping around between different positions within the video. At some point when I clicked on the timeline, the mouse cursor just froze and I got the BSOD. I'm running latest W11 24H2, and have no other WFP driver installed (at least none that I'm aware of). Only security software is Windows Defender with default configuration. VPN software only AdGuard VPN (but was not running at this time). |
I can confirm this issue has been plaguing me for the last 2 weeks. Windows 11 Pro (23H2), Adguard 7.19.0, and I was using the default WFP driver. I've turned it off (defaulting to TDI) to see if that resolves it.. but these are the first times in nearly a year I've seen blue screens for anything, so it was worrying me thinking I'd somehow gotten undetected malware (despite not downloading suspicious software or going to odd sites + having anti-malware). Outside of Windows updates and Adguard updates, I haven't done any network changes. The only related item for me was updating Adguard to 7.19.0. That makes me want to rewind it to an earlier version until this issue is sorted. |
@tox1c90 @j-hickman @ivancuric we are about to release a new driver update, we will announce it here. |
I also encountered a blue screen issue caused by netio.sys. After checking with Windbg, I found that it is highly related to adgnetworkwfpdrv.sys. |
I am using WFP driver and was using WFP whenever this BSOD occured. But current I've been using the nightly version without any issues yet. |
It's the latest version, and I've met two blue screens in two weeks |
Any driver updates yet? Getting a lot of crashes linked to netio.sys on my 24H2 system nowadays, this must be the cause. |
First, turn off the WFP driver. |
From when I switched to TDI driver, I didn't have any more issues with BSOD. The only thing is that the modern UI apps are not filtered, but that's not an issue. Hopefully, in the meantime, this issue will be fixed. |
Does it include Edge? It's my default browser, I wouldn't want to lose filtering there (extension AdGuard is inferior to desktop, in my opinion). |
Even with TDI driver, Edge is filtered because it's based on Chromium. The "old" Edge, instead, was filtered only with the WFP driver. |
@anstosa , @Vstory, could you please send the BSOD dump with the TDI driver and the latest nightly to the qa@adguard.com with the reference to this issue |
