Hello

I would just like to report that this app doesn't work when run in rotated mode, i.e. rotate_display=1,2 or 3 in config.txt. (On Raspberry Pi)

It opens and you can move through the menu fine, however as soon as you try open something it goes to black screen with no keyboard support (frozen) or if you close using f4 it does the same...

I would really love if the issue could be fixed as its the last issue I have with my Arcade Machine and will be helpful to others building Arcades with rotated displays.

Best Regards

Just to be sure, you're running ES from the command line with X closed, right? (this bug commonly happens when ES is run from within X)

Beyond that, try changing one of the launch commands in ~/.emulationstation/es_systems.cfg to something like "sleep 5" and see if you still have problems.

I've never tested with a rotated display, so it could very well be a problem with ES.

Defiantly running with X closed on fresh Raspbian Install; works fine without rotate_display enabled however. So I am pretty sure it's bug with emulationstation as retroarch works directly from console.

Changed ~/.emulationstation/es_systems.cfg with no Luck, I'll output the results of a log file if you want?

Otherwise the app, looks great and works well in rotated mode if I could fix the crashing it wold be great!

Thanks for your time! :)

After some testing, it seems the culprit is SDL (I tried a very minimal "tests" folder I keep around with only the core of ES's rendering in it). I get a crash when I close ScummVM as well.

Well, feel free to contact me if you need any help or further testing... I tried logging but it returned a blank txt file... Great news you found culprit, in my book that's half way to the solution :)

I've been busy studying this week. Thanksgiving break starts tonight though, so I should have time to do some more investigating soon. Sorry for the long wait!

I'm really sorry, but I've been working on projects other than ES. This is a difficult crash that I'm not sure I can even solve (it seems to go very deep into SDL/the RPi GPU library). I still think it's an important problem, but I just haven't been working on it...

You might be better off using AdvMENU until I get this fixed (it'll probably be quite some time). I haven't used it myself, but other people on the RPi forum say it works well.
