The Arlington County Police Department (ACPD) and Department of Environmental Services (DES) frequently post street closures for special events, construction, water main breaks, etc. For a large event like the Marine Corps Marathon, the closures can affect dozens of streets for various lengths of time. Residents and visitors have a hard time figuring out the impact on their travel plans.
Arlington would like to develop a web-based mapping tool that allows ACPD and DES to mark street closures on a map

- Start time (date/time picker)
- End time (date/time picker)
- Description (textarea)
- Closures - one or more per event
- Draw one or more segments on map (snaps to street)
- Start time(date/time picker, defaults to event start time)
- End time(date/time picker, defaults to event end time)
- Extent (dropdown - both lanes/one lane/no parking)
- Description
- Generate unique URL for event
Public interface
- Browse upcoming events by date
- Once an event has been selected:
- Use a slider to move forward and back in time
- Map highlights closures in effect at selected time
- Sidebar highlights description of closures in effect at selected time
