When I upload PDF doc to the File block, it automatically generates preview in the editor, but when I save or publish the page, the preview is not there.

This might be related to #52743

Steps to reproduce the behavior

  1. Add a file block with a PDF to a post or a page. You should see the auto-generated preview in the editor.
  2. Save or publish the post or a page, and click Preview.
  3. Note the PDF preview is not there, you can only see the name of the file + download button.

Site preview:

What I expected to happen

To be able to see the PDF preview when viewing the post/page.

What actually happened

Only the download link and button are being displayed.

Browser / OS version

Chrome 90, Safari / macOS 11.3

I had this same issue. Test post: https://melissasgutenbergteststuff.blog/about/

The File Block is not embedding the PDF and instead shows just a link and download button.
The embed works with any other embed steps, including a direct link, and with Google Drive, but does not display from the File Block

Looks like this might be a duplicate of #52728?

@mrfoxtalbot Can you confirm this is the same issue? The issue you linked mentions Safari specifically and is about loading in the editor, not the front end

@msilbers, the other issue was not browser-specific, but it seems to be the same, doesn't it?

Also related: #52728

@mrfoxtalbot The initial issues reported are all different and the titles, though the comments seem to indicate the same issue. Both of those issues linked mention just the editor in the initial report but this one is about the front-end of the site, where this should be showing as an embedded PDF. If whatever issue is left open can be updated to indicate the current problem, then these others can be closed as duplicates.

I see that's mentioned in #52728 so I'll close this one again 👍
