S3 sometimes always serves gzipped assets, ignoring the Accept-Encoding header, as in the case where the images have been uploaded by https://github.com/jpillora/grunt-aws#gzip-boolean

They are downloaded but not ungzipped and are used without decompression, causing Mapnik to fail
