GrWebSDR

GrWebSDR is a web SDR receiver.

Build requirements

On Fedora (tested on F25), you will need the following packages:

  • gnuradio-devel
  • boost-devel
  • libvorbis-devel
  • libogg-devel
  • libwebsockets-devel
  • json-c-devel
  • gr-osmosdr-devel
  • openssl-devel
  • sqlite-devel (version 3)

Build instructions

$ autoreconf --install
$ ./configure
$ make

How to run it

$ cd src/cpp
$ ./grwebsdr

You will be asked to enter some parameters for your tuner. If you don't want to fill in the parameters each time you run the server, you can create a configuration file (see the file sample_config.json) and run it as

$ ./grwebsdr -f <config file>

You will also be asked to enter a new admin user name + password for the web UI.

Now visit http://localhost:8080/ in your browser.

For more options see the output of

$ ./grwebsdr -h

Creating a user database

If you don't want to type in the admin credentials each time you run GrWebSDR, or if you want to have more than one privileged user, you can create a user database. GrWebSDR uses sqlite3 as the database backend.

To create a new user database and add a new user 'admin' with password 'secret', do the following:

$ sqlite3 users.db
SQLite version 3.14.2 2016-09-12 18:50:49
Enter ".help" for usage hints.
sqlite> CREATE TABLE users(user VARCHAR, pass);
sqlite> INSERT INTO users VALUES ('admin', 'secret');
sqlite> .quit

You can now pass the created database file to GrWebSDR using the '-d' option.

Managing the database through GrWebSDR itself is planned, but not yet implemented.

Known bugs

  1. When using a RTL-SDR tuner then sometimes upon loading the web UI, or when changing some receiver parameter, the server hangs, printing 'O' characters to stderr. This is caused by a race condition originating in rtl-sdr and gr-osmosdr. A patch for rtl-sdr is available from https://pastebin.com/5ykfNvdp (SHA-1: 9e8f0bc2d4955b9a86003ecf88d51c0021aa5a9d), and for gr-osmosdr from https://pastebin.com/SCPGBGWe (SHA-1: e4c0fc1b1051d5211f02bd81d7c840e2bcc04f7b). The fix isn't complete, but it mostly works. Note that the patch for rtl-sdr adds a new API call, which the gr-osmosdr patch uses, so you'll need to build rtl-sdr first.
