usually the mother's ID is not known whereas the father's ID is usually known

since our breeding cages are commonly made up of 2 moms and 1 dad and so it's hard to know which mother gave birth as they both could have been pregnant and delivered their babies whereas since there is only one father, his ID is known with certainty

so I would instead ask

Is the mother known? True/False, if true, add ID
and you can leave Is the father known? and do the same, just for consistency and generalizability across mouse sites
