Dear all,

we are very happy to announce that we will finally have a dash.js face-to-face meeting again. We will meet on June 10th 2024 in Berlin!

The dash.js face-to-face meeting is being hosted by Fraunhofer FOKUS in Berlin, and is co-located with the Media Web Symposium. The FOKUS Media Web Symposium (MWS) is an annual international conference organized by Fraunhofer FOKUS hosting 200+ participants from all over the world discussing Internet based media delivery.

I have implemented some customisation code in imscJS - see sandflow/imscJS#257 - which is based on the BBC fork, in which this functionality is in part used operationally. It doesn't take the class approach - id should already be populated from the TTML if present, hopefully. However it does allow adjustment of each of the customisation options listed in the FCC documentation, by changing the style attribute contents on the generated DOM elements.

I would say that the current implementation is not sufficient for allowing any kind of customisation of subtitle presentation.

I am not sure if I can be at the F2F meeting but would be happy to discuss this in a different meeting.

• Dealing with adaptation-set-switching-2016 and AdaptationSets with different codecs. How do we decide which gives us the best "quality" if no qualityRanking attribute is present.

By this, the content creator has control to rate quality

I think the right attribute when dealing with adaptation-set-switching-2016 is qualityRanking:

specifies a quality ranking of the Representation relative to other Representations in the same Adaptation Set. Lower values represent higher quality content. If not present, then no ranking is defined.

Finally, if the content author signals the ability of Adaptation Set switching for any Adaptation Sets and intends to use @qualityRanking attributes in such Adaptations Sets, then such attributes shall be defined in all Adaptation Sets that are included in @value attribute

Today, we use selectionPriority to select the initial AdaptationSet.

I am thinking about scenarios in which these attributes are not present. If we are allowed to switch between Adaptation Sets with different codecs (e.g. HEVC and H.264) then a higher bitrate is not necessarily the better choice.
